More Fires

This summer has been a rough one on the farm equipment. In July, Jason's brother D had a tractor burn while trying to bail hay, about a week later D was working ground and had a brake freeze up and catch fire on that tractor. He manage to quickly get that fire put out. Two weeks ago, Jason had an electrical fire in his tractor as he was trying to plant wheat. He walked away with a few minor burns and a hat that will never be the same. Today as Jason was trying to fix the drill his brother D was again calling the fire department. 

Bean harvest is officially over for us. D was just finishing up when he noticed the fire. Unfortionately the last load never made it to the truck which is also a blessing because the fire started on the auger side of the combine and we could have lost a semi and new trailer. The fire department arrived in time to salvage the header. To costs approximately $350,000 to purchase a brand new combine so Jason will have to start searching the classifieds for a good used replacement. 

Tonight I finished this card to send to my cousin who is in love with Hello Kitty. When I spotted the SVG file online I knew that I needed to make a Halloween card for her.

Bad Me

So I've been horrible at posting again this month. Typically I don't post when I haven't had time to do anything but I've got a lot done in the last week. I've even done a pretty good job of taking pictures. The problem has been taking the time to get them uploaded.  To keep this post from being a book I'll limit the commentary but please feel free to leave me a comment if you have questions.

Here are a couple of the scrapbook pages that I've completed. I into December of 2009 but need to go back and finish an October wedding now that I have pictures.

Saturday, I took my neices and nephew to the local October Festival Parade.  

I finished this afghan for a potential nephew. We are not sure if my sister-in-law is going to have a girl or boy so there is a girl afghan in the works too just in case. 

The next three are for my neices and nephew for Christmas. I still have one more to make.

From Grandma

This quilt was made entirely from my grandmother's stash. I made if for my cousin's new baby and it will be mailed to China soon.  It's so much better than my last one and was easy to assemble. I almost don't want to mail it but I can't keep everything that I make or I'd run out of room to store things. It's approximately 42x50 and I started it on Saturday afternoon.

Quilting has become a new release for me. There is something so soothing about the hum of the sewing machine. It's the new challenge that I've needed lately. I'm sure there will be more larger quilts to come.

Sharing a little bit of a dream

Jason and I have been farm hunting since before we got married. Now that my house has sold we are financially ready to make our move. Last spring we approached a set of sisters to see if they were ready to sell their parents farm. The house has been vacant for almost a decade and while they were interested in selling they had yet to go through their parents things and empty out the house. Since the one sister lives in Georgia and wouldn’t be able to come home soon they took our phone number and we’ve kept looking. Since then we have seen a couple dozen house come on the market in our target area all lacking one key ingredient essential to our way of life…. land.

Last weekend while driving out to my parent’s house to finalize the last bit of paperwork for my old house we noticed a new realtor’s sign and this house is what we found.

Based on county records and the listing it has everything thing that we want except of course the land….so again I start making some calls to see if the surrounding acreage is available. We are of course still waiting to hear from the realtor but are hoping that the sellers decided to include at least half of the land that was until last year part of the tract that the house sits on. We shall see.
